Villa Murphy is a beautiful comfortable detached holiday house (150 square meters) in Madeira, located in a tranquil spot: your home from home holiday home. Situated in a rural area away from busy spots, yet very close to all amenities: supermarkets; restaurants; levada walks; villages; the man-made yellow sand beach lagoons of Calheta; local black sand and shingle beaches, mountain walks and only a 50 min drive from the airport and 40 min drive from Funchal, Madeira’s one and only city.
The property is rented as a whole unit (you will be the only guests in the building) a two storey house with large open rooms. Upstairs, two large bedrooms both with private ensuite bathrooms open onto a big open balcony with vast sea views. Downstairs there is a large living area with two comfortable couches, a coffe table, computer desk and library area. The living area leads on to a fitted kitchen (with lots of cooking equipment, crockery, cutlery and utensils) including a large fridge with freezer, microwave and coffee maker. A dining table seats four. Both the kitchen and lounge open onto a lower balcony with a brick bbq and outside sink area, ideal for an evening barbecue while enjoying the mature garden with many plants from Madeira and more sea views. A tiled patio at the end of the garden provides another spot to enjoy. A downstairs WC and a small laundry/utility area with a washing machine and a dishwasher complete the lower floor. Steps lead from the street directly down to the house, located on a traditonal levada. Parking is free parking on the (secondary) street.
The property offers free internet and Wi-Fi, ideal for those who need to work.
A child’s travel cot and highchair can be provided for no extra charge for under 2 years. All bed linens and bath towels and end of stay cleaning included in the price.
The ocean views are amazing and the area enjoys a tranquil setting. The large south facing balconies provide fantastic space, the upper balcony has an adjustable sun canopy for very hot days, the lower balcony enjoys more shade and the bbq area is great for alfresco dining.

We take direct bookings (via bank transfer or PayPal) and you can also book us through the holiday rental sites listed below just follow the links and read more of our reviews. We are in business for 16 years and enjoy many repeat clients.
We are always happy to help our guests with their holiday. We can book car hire (prices from 50€ per day), walking, hiking, site-seeing, boat trips, Dolphin watching, fishing trips and/or a taxi. Everything can be organised before or during your stay, however if left until you arrive to the Island some options may be limited.

Book direct, prices are from – 560€ to 700€ for one week (price includes all bed linens, bath towels and end of stay cleaning) based on two persons, 3rd and 4th persons are 105€ extra per week per person. Stayed a few weeks
Villa Murphy is a super equipped and very comfortable house. We felt very comfortable. Sarah and Ciaran were always approachable and we didn’t miss anything at all. The view from the two terraces into the garden, the banana plantations, the sea and the endless sky are wonderful. The absolute tranquility is accompanied by the humming of the bees and bumblebees and the ripple of the nearby Levada…

Very nice cottage with a wonderful view of the sea. We felt very comfortable. The location makes it wonderfully quiet.
You can reach Calheta in 10 minutes by car.

Where to start… the place feels like home away from home when you first enter. It has all one needs for family and also friends stay. The views from both levels are amazing, the breeze, the silence and sometimes the sweet sounds of water running in the levadas close to the house make it feel like paradise.
The house is close to many nice places – Sarah’s recommendations are all top – but you need a car (or let’s say it’s more comfortable if you have a car).
And to top it all, meeting Sarah and Ciaran at checkout made it really a perfect experience. They are amazing to know and talk to, they give a fantastic vibe.
We really can’t recommend highly enough the Villa Murphy!

This place was fantastic. We loved Calheta. It was nice being away from Funchal and all the business. The place was perfect, beautiful and peaceful and the restaurant across the street is great. There is also a small grocery across the street as well and a larger one at the bottom of the hill. Sarah was always responsive with questions and she provided so much information with books and notebooks of things to do in Madeira.
One thing to note, if u are driving, this place is mostly uphill. But everything is uphill in Madeira. But just know that, as day 1 it was challenging for me, but by day 3, I was a pro with the hills and driving vertical.
I was able to meet Sarah as we checked out and she was just as lovely in person as she was in all our correspondence. We already miss the house and our super vacation. Thank you for sharing your gem with us.

Have just returned from the best break in Madeira, staying at Villa Murphy made the holiday extra special, Sarah could not help us enough and was always quick to respond with tons of updates and recommendations, the villa was immaculate and had everything and more you could ever want, everything was spotless and worked…
Great location, just across the road is a fab little bar that serves local dishes Monday to Friday and a little supermarket that has a surprising selection of day-to-day needs (Beer/wine!)

Look no further – this is the perfect place to stay in Madeira! Sarah and Ciaran are the most welcoming hosts. From the very start the communication was smooth, friendly, and on point. They are a lovely family and really care about their guests! Great recommendations and numerous information. The house is just beautiful with a colorful garden, breathtaking sea-view, comfortable beds, spacious rooms, and all the equipment you might need. We enjoyed barbecuing on the terrace while the sun set into the ocean. The area is quiet and childfriendly while at the same time perfect to explore the island. This is one of the best AirBnB experience we‘ve had and we can highly recommend it. We look forward to coming back ☺️

We spend a mervellous honeymoon at Madère thanks to Sarah & Ciaran’s home that was a little peace of heaven. Quiet, confortable, nice view, well equiped, and well located by car.

Simply excellent air bnb. The whole house is incredibly well equipped, we couldn’t think of anything we needed that wasn’t there, which was so lovely, made it feel like a real “home from home”. The terraces are gorgeous for eating outside or soaking up some sun, the view of the sea is just lovely. It also seems to be a really lovely, quiet and sunny part of the island – idyllic!
Hosts are wonderful, really friendly and responsive and they obviously really care that their guests enjoy Madeira to its fullest. Loads of useful info and recommendations in the info pack at the villa and lots of help prior to arrival. We had a minor issue (broken kettle) that they fixed super quickly.
Also, although they say they don’t provide shampoo, we found some under the kitchen sink left over from previous guests, so worth checking the cupboards before going out to do a big shop.
The small supermarket nearby (2min drive) is so convenient and the whole place is well situated for accessing different parts of the island and activities, would especially recommend for people who like some serenity rather than being in the bustle of Funchal. Would recommend a car for ease of getting to activities, the roads around the village are steep (as everywhere on the island) but you get the hang of it, nothing first gear can’t handle and the locals seemed very considerate when needing to pass in tight spots. Also the steer to park on above the villa is flat and easy.

Very very kind, lovely, caring and helpful host family.
The house is very clean and equipped with everything and more (more than you need on holidays I guess). The location is great and central towards all of beautiful Madeira. For me and us it was the perfect place of residence after a long day of hiking. It’s also perfect for a day of just chilling on the balcony because it’s on the sunny side for most parts of the day and you can enjoy the beautiful sea view and incredible sunsets. There’s a bar/café, minimarket and supermarket nearby so you don’t have to drive unless you want to.
I would recommend the accommodation without hesitation!
