Summerhill Medical Centre was established in 1995 to serve the people, families and businesses of Reservoir, Bundoora, Kingsbury, Preston, Mill Park, Macleod and Coburg with quality and convenient healthcare.
Due to the wonderful support of these communities, Summerhill Medical Centre has grown to 7 General Practitioners (male and female), 4 Practice Nurses (including a midwife), and 5 Receptionists.
In line with our ethos “Your Health, Our Focus“, we continue to provide affordable and accessible healthcare by bulk billing all patients and opening 7 days a week.  We are also a predominantly walk-in medical centre as we believe that all patients should have access to a doctor when one is needed rather than when we can squeeze you in.  However, we have recently allocated some time for appointments (please visit https://docbook.com.au/doctor/summerhill-medical-centre to select an appointment that suits).
All of our GPs have over 15 years experience and have vast knowledge in Diabetes Management, Chronic Disease Management, Pregnancy and Women’s Health, Men’s Health and Travel Medicine.  Most of our doctors are also multi-lingual and can converse in Arabic, Cantonese, Greek, Indonesian, Malaysian, Mandarin, Tamil and Urdu.
Our team includes a mid-wife who is a recognised shared care provider with over 20 years experience working at Royal Women’s Hospital and Mercy Hospital.  Expecting parents should see her for practical pre-natal and post-natal advice.
Allergy testing for airborne allergens and immunotherapy are also offered at Summerhill Medical Centre.  If you suffer from chronic hayfever or allergy from dustmites you may be interested in a desensitisation therapy (i.e. immunotherapy). It works by gradually exposing the person to gradually increasing doses of the specific allergen(s).  Over time, this results in the person’s immune system becoming progressively less sensitive – or less reactive – to the allergen(s).

Asthma – with this free Asthma test (developed by the UK NHS) you have the opportunity to find out if you are experiencing any Asthma symptoms.  Prevention is the best way to avoid an Asthma attack and this online Asthma test will enable you to decide if you need to pay us a visit. Asthma needs to be taken very seriously as you can die from an asthma attack if you do not have the correct medications when it occurs – so err on the side of caution and ask your us about it.
Bladder – a healthy bladder is important to all of us, yet many people suffer in silence even though a lot can be done to improve things. Take this short UK NHS assessment to find out if you should seek further advice
Bowel Cancer – this Cancer Council online quiz will help you identify things that may increase your risk to bowel cancer / colorectal cancer
Breast Cancer – use this this interactive tool developed by Cancer Australia to gain an understanding of your risk level for breast cancer
Cancer – check your overall cancer risk by taking this Cancer Council online quiz
Cardiovascular – check your cardiovascular risk with this calculator developed by the National Vascular Disease Prevention Alliance
Diabetes – diabetes is the fastest growing chronic condition in Australia.  Take this test developed by Diabetes Australia to determine if you might be at risk
Fertility – this short test is aimed at women who are worried they may be having problems getting pregnant. It will assess their situation and let them know if they should seek further medical advice.
Kidney Disease – people can have kidney disease and not be aware of it. There are often no symptoms until the disease is quite advanced. Use this test to see if you’re at higher risk of developing kidney disease and should have your kidney function checked
Mental Health – check your mental health with this self-test developed by the Black Dog Institute
Mole / Skin Cancer – skin cancer is one of the most common cancers in Australia but the good news is that if the signs and symptoms are spotted early it’s easier to treat.  Use this test to find out whether you may have a mole that needs to be checked.
People over 40 will now be able to check their risk of developing melanoma using a new online tool designed by Queensland researchers.  To do this test go to: https://publications.qimrberghofer.edu.au/Custom/QSkinMelanomaRisk
Sleep Apnoea – take this online test developed by Resmed to determine if you may have a sleep apnoea.  This can be confirmed by our GP by conducting a home based sleep study.
