The stadium was named after renowned cricketer and batsman “Larry Gomes” who made a victory for the West Indies in 1984 against Australia.
Larry Gomes Stadium was opened on 15th May 2001 and was one of the venues for the FIFA U17 Men World Cup finals in September of the same year.
The stadium hosted teams and media from around the world including countries like Mali, Paraguay,Iran, and many others.
Trinidad and Tobago later hosted the FIFA U17 women’s World Cup in September of 2010.
Countries like Japan, North and South Korea, Ireland, Spain, Canada and many others were part of this historic event. With media teams from Europe, South and North America.
